Toronto, February 06, 2012—
Arne Kislenko, a history professor from Ryerson University, Maureen Mancuso, the Vice-President Academic at the University of Guelph and Nick Mount, an English professor from the University of Toronto have all been awarded Canada’s top teaching honour for the positive impact they have on their student’s lives.
The three were amongst 10 professors across Canada, who have all won the prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship in 2011.
In response to this recognition, they want to draw attention to their own passion for teaching by thanking the professors who inspired their love of learning and teaching.
In a new ‘Thank Your Great Teacher’ campaign, the 3M Fellowship winners are telling their story in ads in the Globe and Mail that will run for 10 days.
As part of the campaign, visitors to a newly-launched website, www.thankyourteacher.ca, are encouraged to post messages of appreciation to their own inspirational college or university teachers.
“One of the things that makes a teacher great is the ability to inspire students to become passionate about something,” says Bonnie Patterson, President and CEO of the Council of Ontario Universities (COU). “This campaign is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that transfer of passion and to reflect on the profound difference excellent teachers make to people’s learning experience.”
The campaign is being supported by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, which hands out the 3M Fellowship, as well as the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.
